Dr Marie Brown’s new book Vanishing Nature shows how we are on a collision course with New Zealand’s fragile natural world. She argues that our economic systems do not account for nature and what it provides, and incentives to damage are stronger and more numerous than those for protection. She believes loss is not inevitable and sets out concrete steps for change. Marie will be in conversation with former journalist and editor of recent State of our Gulf reports Tim Higham to help put a local lens on the environmental impact zone.

Cable Bay Vineyard & Restaurant

Always the highlight of our Festival this year’s ‘world famous on Waiheke Literary Lunch’ is at the award winning Cable Bay Vineyards. Be entertained, enthralled and perhaps a little perplexed as you listen to investigative journalist and satirist Steve Braunias talk about his latest work on crimes that made headlines; sculptor Peter Lange will share the ‘chrunchie bits’ of his life from his recently self-published literary selfie Hokey Pokey; and former poet laureate, essayist and novelist Ian Wedde will announce the winner.

Artworks Theatre, 2 Korora Road, Oneroa

What these three authors have in common is their love of writing. Come and hear the inspiration behind their diverse and universally well received novels – Vivienne’s Blog a psychological thriller, Sleep, Sister a beautifully rendered story of two sisters finding themselves and best selling Rich Man Road, a tale of two women and their search for belonging in New Zealand.
